Five Mile Island Conservation Area

Open to the Public

LRCT purchased Five Mile Island in 1999. The island offers nearly ten acres of forest and 3,300 feet of rocky shoreline for exploration, with a well-marked trail around the perimeter. The 0.45-mile trail provides a comfortable hiking route around the island and reveals an interesting variety of vegetation including a small wetland.

Paddle Map

LRCT has created a waterproof paddle map that features Five Mile Island, along with four other island properties.

Island Access

The best landing site for paddle craft is a small coarsely pebbled beach on the southeast side. There is a LRCT’s kiosk that marks the landing site and is easily visible from the water.

Keep in mind:

  • There is no dock, so power boat operators should anchor and wade ashore
  • Large rocks are just beneath the surface on either side of a narrow channel as you approach the beach
