Bald Ledge CE

New Hampton, NH

The Lakes Region Conservation Trust is pleased to have worked with the Town of New Hampton to conserve 135.5 acres at Bald Ledge.

About

Bald Ledge is a series of cliffs that tower above Winona Lake, offering beautiful views to the north and northwest, including Lakes Winona and Waukewan and the Sandwich, Ossipee, and Squam Mountain Ranges. The area holds local importance as the site of the town’s first Old Home Day in 1898 – an event still celebrated today to bring the town together, honoring history and community.

The Bald Ledge Property abuts the 119-acre Sky Pond State Forest and lies near Sky Pond and Jackson Pond. Due to its steep slope and proximity to the ponds, the property is critical to supporting regional water quality. The property also contains portions of the state’s highest-ranked habitat and the biological region’s highest-ranked habitat, providing habitat for moose, bobcat, hermit thrush, and an ancient White Oak specimen, among others. A one-mile recreational trail frequently used by hikers is already established on the property, beginning on Sky Pond Road and taking hikers to the Bald Ledge viewpoint.

Thank You!

Thank you to the Town of New Hampton for this wonderful opportunity to conserve an area that is important to the history of New Hampton and the natural resources of the region.
