Hiking During Hunting Season

Whether you hike or bike, walk or trail run, if you’re out on recreational trails or in the woods, it’s important to be aware of hunting dates and seasons.

Know before you go:

  • Be aware of your surroundings, and know the dates of hunting season in your area. Visit the New Hampshire Fish and Game website for information on hunting dates and seasons.
  • Wear blaze orange, both on yourself and your furry companions. Hats and vests for you and orange bandanas or vests for your dog. Consider a vest with reflective straps if you plan to be out during dawn or dusk.
  • Be heard. Make noise while hiking, whether it’s talking with a hiking companion, whistling for your dog, or even singing! Consider a bell for your dog so hunters won’t mistake them for game.

Visit the NH Fish & Game website for more tips on how to practice safe hiking while enjoying the fall season.
