Encountering Black Bears
While out on LRCT properties, you may come across wildlife including black bears. It’s important to remember to remain cautious and respectful of their space. Here are a few tips to help protect yourself and the bears.
Never Feed Bears – Intentionally feeding bears is illegal in NH because it conditions them to approach humans.
Leash and Control Your Pet – Uncontrolled pets antagonize bears.
Respect a bear’s space – Never approach a bear to take pictures. A bear may perceive your advance as a threat.
If you encounter a bear – Remain standing. Back away slowly, speaking in a calm voice. Don’t run or climb trees.
