Ongoing Land Protection and Stewardship Efforts
Your support of the Trust's land protection and stewardship efforts provides
many benefits to the region, including:
- 18,500 acres of permanently protected forestland, wetlands, shorelines,
farmland, mountaintops
significant lands which preserve the natural
beauty, wildlife habitat, and community character of the Lakes Region.
- Public access to conservation areas, including the 5,500 acre Castle
in the Clouds Conservation Area and the 2,500 acre Red Hill Conservation
Area.
- Extensive trail networks for hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing,
and other low-impact recreational uses, which are maintained by the
Trust and its volunteers.
- Preservation of shoreline on Winnipesaukee, Squam, and other lakes
and ponds.
- Protection of islands, including Stonedam Island on Lake Winnipesaukee
and the maintenance of its dock for access by boat.
Your support of the efforts of the Trust is greatly appreciated! The Trust
raises financial support in several ways, including requesting donations
to the annual fund, raising funds for specific land acquisition projects,
and seeking contributions to the endowment.
