LAKE WINNIPESAUKEE AND ITS ENVIRONS

Ossipees from Lake Winnipesaukee

The largest lake in New Hampshire, Winnipesaukee is an endless collection of coves and inlets, bays and broads, each with its own character and outlook, as diverse and complex an inland waterscape as the coast of Maine. Development pressure has always been heavy. Water quality, aesthetics, boat traffic, and safety have been perennial concerns for all those who love the big lake. Island, shorefront , and watershed protection on Winnipesaukee have been priority goals for the Trust since its inception. Trust members continue to explore the potential for a network of water-trail access points to connect places of interest and beauty along these shores. Winnipesaukee's wildness and beauty and the sheer scale of its landscape are its abiding qualities and its potential gift to the future.
